SBP (Sustainable Biomass Partnership) is a certification programme that works to ensure an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable solid biomass supply chain that contributes to a low carbon economy.
SBP is also a tool for profiling greenhouse gas balance data for the biomass, in the context of procurement, production and delivery chain.
Who can benefit from SBP?
- Pellet manufacturers who are exporting to energy plants in e.g. Belgium, Netherlands, UK and Denmark.
- Company that is applying for SBP certification should have FSC or PEFC Chain of Custody certificate
- Unique certification scheme designed for woody biomass, mostly in the form of wood pellets and wood chips, used in industrial, large-scale energy production.
SBP has developed a certification programme to provide assurance that woody biomass is sourced from legal and sustainable sources allowing companies in the biomass sector to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
More information about SBP and standards can be found in SBP webpages.
DNV GL Business Assurance Finland Oy Ab (DNV GL) has become the fifth ‘SBP-approved’ Certification Body.
DNV GL has been approved for the certification of Biomass Producers, typically pellet or wood chip mills, and the biomass supply chain, for example, components of the downstream supply chain, such as trade, transport and processing that require Chain of Custody certification. The geographic scope of the approval allows DNV GL to offer certification services in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Russian Federation. Read more here.
